Gait & Running Analysis & Footscan Pressure Mapping

Footscan Gait Analysis

Footscan provides accurate 2D and 3D images of the foot during static, balance and dynamic measurements.   This detail enables a more reliable gait and movement analysis that visual observation or video recording alone.

During your assessment, pressure is measured through the foot during standing, walking and running.

Key benefits of Footscan:

• Identification of gait and movement abnormalities and asymmetries.
• Assessment with/without footwear or orthotics can be visually compared on the screen.
• Balance protocol for measuring functional movements, postural sway and foot stability.

This technology can be used to analyse your loaded weight distribution during functional sports movements, such as golf swing, which helps to assess trends that might influence technique or injury risk.

Physio Led Treadmill Gait Analysis

A biomechanical visual analysis of your leg movement during walking and running.  The whole body assessment considers arm, trunk and pelvic movement followed by the action at the knee, ankle and foot on loaded movement.

This will identify the underlying cause of persistent and recurrent problems such as low back, hip, thigh, knee, ankle or foot pain particularly if this starts after exercise such as walking, running or playing sport.

An one hour gait and running assessment and biomechanical visual analysis involves:

  • Understanding the exact nature of your problem and how it is affecting you.
  • Posture analysis in standing, with particular focus on the pelvis, hip, knee, ankle and foot alignment.
  • Visual analysis in the gym area or on the treadmill reviewing the alignment of the lower limb joints in relation to the pelvis during functional movement.
  • Observation (video analysis optional) during walking and running.
  • Range of movement and strength testing.
  • Recommendations, including advice on your footwear if indicated.
  • Please bring or wear appropriate clothing for the assessment and bring your current sports or running shoes.

Footscan Pressure Mapping and Balance Assessment

Footscan Pressure Mapping using the Footscan mat is an effective method of balance assessment for any age and functional activity.

Key benefits of Footscan during balance assessment:

• Identification of foot pressure asymmetries.
• Ability to see areas of high pressure loading (vital for diabetic patients).
• Balance with/without footwear/orthotics if used.
• Balance protocol for measuring functional movements, postural sway and foot stability.

Footscan can be used during Physiotherapy and rehabilitation treatment sessions that focus on balance rehabilitation for both upper and lower limb conditions, as it provides excellent visual feedback to both clinician and patient.

It is suitable for anyone with balance issues, falls and neurological conditions as well as sport specific balance training.

Orthotics

The results of your gait analysis might indicate the benefit of using orthotics to further improve biomechanics or symptoms.  You therapist will discuss the available options based on your results.  Click for further information on the Orthotics available in clinic.
