Manual therapy
These techniques are specialised hands-on skills consisting of joint mobilisation,
manipulation and soft tissue techniques designed to reduce pain, restore
movement and improve function.
Mechanical & electrical treatments
Physiotherapists may use different modalities for pain relief, muscle spasm,
inflammation, swelling and to enhance healing. Examples of modalities include:
Ultrasound, transcutaneous nerve stimulation (TENS), acupuncture and biofeedback.
Exercise
Exercise is usually a core component of most physiotherapy treatment plans.
An exercise programme may consist of stretching, strengthening and aerobic
conditioning. The exercises are progressed and customized to your needs and
your specific goals for recovery. Much of the rehabilitation will take place
in our fully equipped gym.
Education
All patients are provided with education about their condition and important
information and strategies to help self-manage their condition and prevent
further injury.
Medical exercise therapy
Your physiotherapist may recommend a course of exercise to aid your recovery.
You may join our gym for the duration of your programme. Exercises in the
gym are supervised by chartered physiotherapists or rehabilitation therapists
and supervised classes are run throughout the week. Please ask reception
for more details.
Functional rehabilitation
Neurological conditions for example stroke, MS and Parkinson's disease as
well as general debility may benefit from functional rehabilitation to recover
maximum function and independence. This may include assessments in the home. Individual
and group appointments are available in the clinic.
Biomechanical analysis of gait
This involves flexibility and muscle strength testing and video analysis
to assess walking and running patterns. Orthotics can be made if necessary.
Work place assessment
Bury Physio specialises in ergonomic and work place assessment and our experienced
therapists are able to offer advice in the clinic or in the workplace on
an individual or company basis.
Pilates
Pilates is an effective way to improve core strength for the prevention of
and recovery from injury. Bury Physio runs two Pilates class a week.
